The change to Virginia’s speed limit on certain interstates and highways is part and parcel of Gov Bob McDonnell’s campaign platform. The Governor ran on an economic caucus to increase jobs, improve roads, improve travel, and create more roads in the Old Dominion State. Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) is now permitted to gather data on stretches of highway/interstates throughout the Commonwealth, and recommend elevating the speeds. Many sections of Virginia’s interstates that pass through cities or congested areas were lowering the speed limits to as much as 15 mph below 65; by elevating the limit to 70, those areas have elevated their limits to 60 or 65 thus keeping interstate speeds consistent and permitting travelers to arrive at destinations slightly faster. There is a safety factor argued by both sides. Studies showing an increase in tractor trailer traffic along some corridors found that motorists were often exceeding the speed limit in effort to gain distance or pass what they perceived as potential delays in traveling. Surrounding states of the Commonwealth may have played a role as well, since 32 other states have adopted and implemented a 70 MPH maximum safe speed. It was Virginia’s decision to become the 33rd state to implement this system. It should be noted that this change is not everywhere throughout the state; so continue to pay attention to posted signs as you travel through and around the Commonwealth.

I wear crew or mid calf socks everyday with shorts and sneakers. I like fun socks so that’s what I wear. There are no sock police out there so do what you like.
