60,000 Wawa-Branded Tumblers Recalled Due to Laceration Hazard

Roughly 60,000 Wawa-branded tumblers were recalled this week over a portion of the product posing a laceration hazard.
On Thursday, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) issued a notice warning consumers about a safety hazard associated with certain metal straws sold inside recalled tumblers. The notice explains that the metal straws can cause cuts to users’ mouths or fingers if not handled carefully, presenting a risk that prompted the recall. To date, there have been four reported injuries linked to these tumblers, with users reporting cuts sustained during regular use.
The commission is advising consumers to stop using the affected products immediately and to contact the distributor—Illinois-based Halo Branding Solutions—for further instructions on how to safely return or dispose of the item.
“This recall involves a reusable tumbler with a metal straw,” the CPSC said.
Those plastic tumbles were described as coming in four styles: “The Mermaid,” which is pink/green, “Island Surf,” which is blue/yellow, “Sailor Breeze,” which is tan/orange, and “The Galaxy,” which is blue/pink.
“The tumblers come with a tan lid. The tumbler comes in 24-ounce size. Wawa is imprinted on the tumblers,” the CPSC added in its recall announcement.
The recalled 24-ounce tumblers were available exclusively in August of this year at Wawa stores across several states, including Alabama, Delaware, Florida, Maryland, New Jersey, North Carolina, Pennsylvania and Virginia, as well as in Washington D.C.
“The original tumbler and metal straw must be returned to Halo to receive the refund. Proof of purchase (receipt) is not required to receive a replacement or refund. Halo will provide a pre-paid label for shipping the recalled units,” the CPSC said in the recall.
According to the recall announcement, the CPSC and Halo note that customers who own the recalled product should not return it to their local Wawa store.
For more information, consumers can contact Halo by phone at (855) 425-6266 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. CT, Monday through Friday. The company can also be reached about the recall by email at [email protected] or online at https://halo.com/safety-recall-24oz-mug.
Over the past serval months, the CPSC and the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) have issued a number of different recalls, for a wide range of products.
Earlier this month, the FDA issued a recall for thousands of bottles of baby powder due to potential contamination with asbestos.
Dynarex Corporation initiated the recall on September 19, which has now been expanded to include over 40,000 bottles of their products, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) reported.
